The basics
The Ticinese neighborhood is among the oldest in Milan and takes its name from the historic city gate marking the southern end of the Corso di Porta Ticinese. Though Milan's best-preserved Roman ruins—the circus and amphitheater—are located here, as are the Basilicas of San Lorenzo and Sant'Eustorgio, the neighborhood is best known for its excellent shopping and vibrant nightlife. On summer evenings and weekends, the streets are crowded with locals window shopping or relaxing at outdoor restaurants and bars.

The Ticinese neighborhood is most vibrant in summer, when the stores are filled with shoppers during the day and the bars and restaurants are lively in the evening. If you’re looking for bargains, browse in January and July, when Italy’s sale seasons are at their peak.
The Trendy Navigli District
The Ticinese neighborhood is adjacent to the equally vibrant and interesting Navigli District, criss-crossed by Naviglio Grande and Naviglio Pavese canals. This once-gritty neighborhood began to attract artists during the mid-20th century; today, the Navigli District is filled with galleries and artisan shops, and boasts a bohemian atmosphere that makes it one of the most popular neighborhoods in the city.
