Tlaquepaque sits a roughly 30-minute drive from downtown Guadalajara and several buses run between the two—look for vehicles marked "Tlaquepaque" on Avenida 16 de Septiembre between Madero and López Cotilla. However, it’s likely more convenient—and still entirely affordable—to take a taxi or arrange a tour which includes round-trip transportation.
When to Get There
Tlaquepaque is a year-round destination and Guadalajara is known as a city of eternal spring, although if you’re looking to escape the crowds, summer tends to see the arrival of fewer tourists. Regardless, you’ll always be able to wander the pretty, pedestrianized streets without needing a jacket. Midweek is typically quieter too, while Sundays evenings can be rowdy but great fun.

Ceramics may be one of the town’s principal draws, but there’s plenty more to recommend this pretty day-trip destination, including many converted colonial mansions.
