Triple Bridge (Tromostovje)
Adamič-Lundrovo nabrežje 1, Ljubljana, Slovenia, 1000
One of Ljubljana’s most recognizable landmarks, the Triple Bridge over Ljubljanica River connects the city’s historic center with the popular meeting point, Prešeren Plaza. The bridge’s three interconnected pedestrian-only pathways are the inspired masterwork of Slovene architect Jože Ple?nik and stand among his many humanist architectural gems in the city.
The Basics
Triple Bridge is lined with elegant stone balustrades and street-lamps, and all throughout the day into the night, people walk or cycle through or stop to take in the beautiful riverscape. The iconic bridge figures into many half-day, full-day, group or private tours that explore the city and beyond. Choose your mode of transport—on foot, bicycle, boat ride, or even a paddle board—and your focus: maybe it’s a deep dive into architecture, history, or Slovenia’s rich culinary and winemaking heritage. Add a funicular ride up to Ljubljana Castle or a mini-trip to magical Lake Bled.
Things to Know Before You Go
- Triple Bridge is a great spot to enjoy city life and the beauty of the river.
- Stairways from each of the two side bridges lead to tree-lined terraces with captivating views.
- On the west side, there is a public WC; and on the east side, a currency exchange kiosk and tourist information center.
How to Get There
Triple Bridge crosses Ljubljanica River and connects Prešeren Plaza to the pedestrian-only historic center, and is best accessed on foot or bicycle. Take bus lines 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, or 11 to the Posta stop on the west side, or line 2 to the Lutkovno gl. stop on the east side. From either, walk about five minutes to the bridge.
When to Get There
Triple Bridge is a popular meeting place throughout the year as locals and travelers alike stop for the scenic view or for a picnic on a bench. During the day, flower sellers appear with carts filled with fresh blooms, and at night the bridge is softly lit, making it the ideal bookend moment to having a meal or a drink at one of the numerous restaurants, bars, and cafés along the river.
Tivoli Park and Mansion
A few blocks northwest of the bridge is Tivoli Park, Ljubljana's largest green space packed with walking/cycling trails, playgrounds, and cultural institutions such as the Museum of Contemporary History of Slovenia and Tivoli Mansion, which houses the International Centre of Graphic Arts. Wander to the pond for a bite to eat or stop and smell 160 types of roses, including the pink Prešeren cultivar named after the Slovenian poet France Prešeren.
