Twickenham Stadium

200 Whitton Road, Twickenham, Greater London, TW2 7BA

Officially branded the Allianz Stadium, Twickenham Stadium—or “Twickers”, as it’s sometimes known—takes its name from the southwest London borough in which it’s found. For most people, it’s all about rugby, as the home stadium for the national team and one of the world’s largest rugby union stadiums, with a capacity for some 82,000 spectators. The site also hosts American football NFL games, music concerts, and conferences.

The Basics

Match day tickets must be booked well in advance. Alternatively, a stadium tour provides a behind-the-scenes look at the iconic stadium and World Rugby Museum without the match-day crowds. The London Pass includes admission to Twickenham on non-match days, along with other top attractions and transportation via hop-on hop-off buses over a period that suits your schedule.

  • The stadium is wheelchair-friendly, including accessible toilets.

London Stadiums

London’s high concentration of sports facilities is an attractive feature for many visitors to the capital. The only London venue that beats Twickenham’s size is the massive Wembley Stadium, which also provides tours. For visitors looking to contrast their stadium visit with a more traditional sports experience in the city, try Lord’s Cricket Ground, Fulham’s Craven Cottage, or Wimbledon’s eponymous grass tennis courts.

Ways to explore

To catch a game or concert, you can buy general sale tickets directly through the England Rugby website, a reputable sales site such as Ticketmaster UK, or directly from the stadium’s ticket office at the south stand. Major international matches are in demand, and you must register for a ballot by applying directly with the Rugby Football Union (RFU).

If you want to sate your curiosity about the stadium, you can visit the on-site World Rugby Museum and England Rugby Store. While the displays are mostly focused on the England team, any rugby fan will find it an interesting experience, with interactive exhibits, games, and historic artifacts, such as the Calcutta Cup. Stadium tours lasting just over one hour are also available; times can vary, so it’s best to book your ticket for tours in advance.
