USS Oklahoma Memorial

Langley Avenue, Honolulu, Oahu, Oahu, HI, 96818

Part of the World War II Valor in the Pacific National Monument, the USS Oklahoma Memorial pays tribute to the USS Oklahoma and the 429 marines and sailors that perished when the USS Oklahoma sank during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Dedicated on December 7, 2007, the memorial is located on Ford Island, next to its former berth.

The basics

The USS Oklahoma Memorial comprises 429 white marble columns, each bearing a name and rank, arranged in a v-formation to resemble sailors in their dress uniforms manning the ship's rails, symbolized by black granite. You can visit the memorial independently by taking a shuttle bus from the visitor center. The National Park Service also runs the Ford Island Bus Tour, which visits the USS Oklahoma Memorial, USS Utah Memorial, and several historic officer bungalows.

Combine a visit to the memorial with other sites at Pearl Harbor, including the adjacent USS Missouri.

Things to know before you go

  • The Ford Island Bus Program is limited to 25 guests at a time and must be reserved in advance via reservation.com (it's free, minus a $1 reservation.com fee).

  • Bags are not permitted, though paid storage is available at the Pacific Fleet Submarine Museum. Personal cameras and one water bottle per visitor are allowed.

  • The USS Oklahoma Memorial and Pearl Harbor Visitor Center are accessible to wheelchair users.

  • The memorial has no restrooms, but they are available at the visitor center.

How to get there

The USS Oklahoma Memorial is located on Ford Island, within easy walking distance of the Battleship USS Missouri. Visitors can only access Ford Island on the official shuttles from the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center or on a guided tour. Many Pearl Harbor tours include transportation from Honolulu or other Hawaiian islands. There is a fee to park at Pearl Harbor National Memorial.

When to get there

The USS Oklahoma Memorial is open from early morning to sunset. The Pearl Harbor Visitor Center is open daily from early morning to early evening, except Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day. Shuttles run between the visitor center and Ford Island every 15 minutes. The Ford Island Bus Tour takes 90 minutes, is offered on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in the afternoon, and must be reserved in advance. The busiest seasons at Pearl Harbor are summer, winter, holidays, and spring break.

Other Pearl Harbor attractions

The USS Arizona Memorial, which floats over the site of the sunken battleship, is the most well-known site at Pearl Harbor. Visitors can also board the floating Battleship USS Missouri Memorial and a submarine at the Pacific Fleet Submarine Museum (formerly the USS Bowfin Submarine Museum), see period aircraft at the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum (formerly the Pacific Aviation Museum), and pay their respects at the USS Utah Memorial, also located on Ford Island.
