Vessup Bay

The basics

Visit Vessup Bay independently or as part of a sightseeing or private boat charter. Enjoy a leisurely stroll along the white sandy beach and rocky outcroppings. Admire the abundant flora along the bay. The sheltered waters of the bay are generally very calm, making it an ideal spot for swimming. A water sports rental shop with irregular hours is sometimes open at the beach. On the weekends, the beach can be a popular spot for parties, celebrations, BBQs, and other family gatherings among local residents.

Things to know before you go

• There are limited facilities at Vessup Bay so bring everything you may need for a day out in the sun and water.
• Sea grass and trash can often be found washed up on the beach.
• Amenities and food are available in nearby Red Hook.

How to get there

Vessup Bay is at the end of Route 32, east of Red Hook. A number of local roads, including Vessup Lane and Bay Road, offer access to the shoreline. It’s best to drive or take a taxi or boat to Vessup Bay.

When to get there

Visitors looking for a peaceful beach experience away from the crowds should visit during the week. For a more lively time, visit on the weekends.

East End Beaches

There are around 40 beaches on St. Thomas and the East End is home to several notable ones. Coki Point, Sapphire Beach, and Secret Harbor all offer excellent snorkeling and plenty of amenities, with rentals and food and drink options. Lindquist Beach, part of the Smith Bay Park, offers a pristine beach with facilities and lifeguards, as well as stunning views.
