Viðey Island

Reykjavik, Iceland

Learn about local history during a visit to Viðey Island, across the water from Reykjavik. The first settlement on the island dates back to the 10th century, and Viðey was once home to Augustine monks. Today, it's a popular breeding ground for birds and there are scenic tracks for walks, biking, and horseback riding.

The basics

Experience the natural beauty of Iceland during a visit to Viðey Island, a short boat ride from Reykjavik. In addition to the walking and biking trails, there’s a restaurant in Videyjarstofa House (the first stone and cement building in Iceland, dating back to 1755).
