POINT OF INTEREST

Warwick Long Bay

South Shore Park, Warwick Parish

If you’re looking for an uninterrupted stretch of sand, Warwick Long Bay is where you’ll find it. This beauty of a beach extends along Bermuda’s southeastern shores, offering crushed-coral sands backed by wild grass and lapped by reef-protected waters. Those in the know keep the secret to themselves, so this beach doesn’t draw the same crowds as neighboring Horseshoe Bay.

The basics

It’s relatively easy to access Warwick Long Bay independently via South Road—there are entrances and car parks for scooters, taxis, and microcars at both the western and eastern ends of the beach. Cruise ship passengers can look for Bermuda beach shore excursions, which typically offer pickup and drop-off from the port in air-conditioned vehicles. These day-long or half-day trips often visit Horseshoe Bay and other beaches, so you can discover different stretches of Bermuda’s sand in one trip.

Things to know before you go

  • The price you pay for solitude means there are no permanent amenities at Warwick Long Bay; it’s a good idea to bring an umbrella, a portable beach chair, food, and water.

  • The nearest restrooms are portable toilets by the western entrance.

  • The beach appeals to nature lovers who want to avoid the crowds of nearby Horseshoe Bay.

  • There are no lifeguards, but waves are generally moderate as the water is sheltered by the inner reef. It’s a good place for paddling, snorkeling, and bodyboarding.

  • There’s a playground for children at the eastern end of the beach, called Warwick Long Bay Playground.

How to get there

Warwick Long Bay stretches for roughly half a mile (just less than a kilometer) along Bermuda’s south shore. From Hamilton, take the bus route 7, ask the driver when to get off, and then walk down to the beach from the road. If you prefer to save your legs, a taxi to either of the parking lots is a good option. If you like a good walk, you can access the beach from nearby Horseshoe Bay Beach via a foot trail.

When to get there

The beach is open to everyone from dusk ‘till dawn year-round. The sunniest days are in the high summer months (June through August), when pop-up vendors sometimes appear to sell snacks and rent snorkel gear. While it’s rarely busy, head there in the early morning if you want the best chance of having the sand to yourself.

How to access Jobson’s Cove

Stroll down the beach down to its western end, and follow the footpath to the hidden gem of Jobson’s Cove. Loved by locals and resident parrotfish alike, this is a tiny yet tranquil beach hangout, and is ideal for small children to swim in due to its sheltered, shallow water. It’s also a great place to snorkel or snap photos, as you won’t find many other people around.
