Campground Overview

Introduction

At mile 13 (km 20.9), Sheep Camp is the last campground on the U.S. side of the Chilkoot Trail before the Chilkoot Pass and border. As a result, it is popular in peak months and can be fully booked. To stay at all campsites along the trail, you must purchase a permit via Recreation.gov and attend an orientation at the Trail Center in Skagway before starting your hike. In 2026, the international border between Canada is closed to hikers on the Chilkoot Trail; you will need to turn around at the pass.
