At the confluence of the St. Lawrence and Saguenay rivers, Tadoussac reigned as capital of the territory allotted to Pierre Chauvin for his trade with the First Nations. A reconstruction of the Chauvin dwelling contains artifacts recovered from the area. A cross near the village church commemorates the visit of Jacques Cartier in 1535.
