AAA Editor Notes
USS Constitution, off I-93 exit 28 in Charlestown Navy Yard on the Freedom Trail, was launched Oct. 21, 1797, at Edmund Hartt's shipyard and was the nemesis of French privateers and Barbary Corsairs. Engagements with the British in the War of 1812 brought the vessel fame and the nickname “Old Ironsides.” The 44-gun frigate was constructed of seasoned live and white oak and yellow and white pine timbers secured by bolts and copper sheathing made by Paul Revere. It is purportedly the oldest commissioned warship afloat in the world; U.S. Navy Sailors are still assigned to the ship. Interactive exhibits and hands-on programs portray the ship's incredible history.

Note: Visitors 18 and older will be subject to a security screening and must present a valid federal or state issued photo ID at the security entrance. Tours go below deck and require climbing a ladder; full mobility is required.

Guided tours are available.
