Fairbanks House, 511 East St. at Eastern Ave., was built circa 1637 and is said to be the oldest standing timber-frame house in North America. Inhabited by the Fairbanks family until the beginning of the 20th century, the house contains furniture, textiles and other objects that belonged to the family. Guided tours discuss life in New England during the first 3 centuries of European habitation.
