Cliveden, 6401 Germantown Ave., was built 1763-67 for Pennsylvania Chief Justice Benjamin Chew. The house was damaged during the 1777 Battle of Germantown; scars from the battle remain in the walls. The mid-Georgian home is furnished with 18th- and 19th-century pieces, original Chippendale furnishings, Chinese porcelain, paintings and other decorative arts. A short film and interactive displays also are available. The grounds consist of 5.5 acres. Educational programs are offered throughout the year.

Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 1 hour, 30 minutes minimum.
