AAA Editor Notes
Virginia Holocaust Museum is in Shockoe Bottom at 2000 E. Cary St. The museum contains memorabilia, archives, audiovisual presentations and re-creations of scenes related to the Holocaust. Also on-site are a replicated Nuremberg courtroom (the original was the setting of the Nazi International War Crimes Trials of 1945-46) and a re-created, full-size Chor Schul (synagogue) from Kovno, Lithuania. A special exhibit is dedicated to the Ipson family, who fled from the Kovno Ghetto and survived in an underground bunker for 6 months. Visitors can climb into a model of the 9-by-12-foot hiding place, which sheltered 13 people. The Modern Genocide Gallery is open to visitors, though construction is ongoing.

Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
