Brockville

Heritage sites include the 1842 Leeds and Grenville County Courthouse and Jail and Canada's First Underground Railway Tunnel, built in 1860. The tourism office offers walking tours Wednesday through Saturday, mid-June to mid-August.

A variety of theatrical performances, concerts and other events are presented year-round at the Brockville Arts Centre, an 1858 structure at 235 King St. W.; phone (613) 342-7122, or (877) 342-7122 in Ontario for information and tickets. Brockville's farmers market, on Market Street W., can be visited Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. from May to December.

Recreational opportunities include Brock Trail, which stretches for 6 kilometres (4 mi.) from the waterfront into the city and features plaques highlighting area history and growth. With numerous shipwrecks scattered along the bottom of the St. Lawrence River, Brockville is a popular scuba diving destination.
