Tomah

Frank King, the creator of the innovative “Gasoline Alley” cartoon strip grew up in Tomah but later moved to the Chicago area to work for the Chicago Tribune. First published in 1919, “Gasoline Alley” characters and locales were drawn from King's youth in Tomah and reflected life in a small American town. The most notable innovation was that the characters aged over the life of the strip.
