POINT OF INTEREST

Corral de la Morería

Calle de la Moreria 17, Madrid, Spain, 28005

Although southern Spain is known as the hub of flamenco performance, Madrid visitors can still find traditional venues—called tablaos—to see this timeless art. Corral de la Morería is one of the best. With more than six decades of history, this restaurant and venue is known for its flamboyant, energetic shows from world-renowned dancers.

The basics

If you're in the Spanish capital, a flamenco performance at Corral de la Morería is second to none (unless, of course, you're headed to Seville). This tiny, rustic-style club seats only 140 guests and offers the intimate setting you can't sacrifice if you want to experience the excitement and raw power of flamenco.

You should secure skip-the-line tickets in advance to this popular club, and book the time that's best for you—there's two nightly shows. Performances typically last more than an hour, and feature several dancers and musicians. Famed performers from the flamenco world have known to grace the stage, including Antonio Gades and Blanca del Rey.

Things to know before you go

  • Don't worry about bad seats—the venue offers views of the stage from all sides.
  • The full menu here features Spanish cuisine, plus a selection of tapas and wine.
  • For the best value, opt for combo tickets that include food, drinks, or both, along with your performance.

How to get there

This conveniently-located tablao is situated in Madrid's Centro district, and it's easiest to reach by public transit. You can take Metro Line 5 to La Latina, or Line 2 to Ópera. It's just about a 10-minute walk from either station. Bus Lines 3 and 148 also stop nearby.

When to get there

The venue's two nightly shows are typically on the later side, and it's best to arrive early to find your seats. If you plan to eat dinner here, arrive at least an hour early for dinner service before the performance. You can expect more crowds for weekend performances, and tickets may be difficult to secure during Madrid's busy summer tourist season in June, July, and August.

What to see in the Centro District

You can spend a day in Centro and barely scratch the surface, since so many of Madrid's top sights are located in this bustling district. Just a short walk from Corral de la Morería you can find the Madrid Royal Palace, Plaza Mayor, and the grand, neoclassical Basilica of San Francisco el Grande. Don't miss tapas at the Mercado de San Miguel, and dinner at Sobrino de Botín (if you can get a reservation).
