Glow Worm Caves Tamborine Mountain

104-144 Hartley Road, North Tamborine, Queensland, 4272

Located on the grounds of the Cedar Creek Estate Winery on Mt. Tamborine, the Glow Worm Caves Tamborine Mountain are one of the best spots on the Gold Coast to view glowworms. See thousands of these creatures during the daytime in a darkened, controlled environment designed to mimic their natural habitat.

The Basics

The Glow Worm Caves can only be experienced on a guided tour. The tour begins with a short walk through rehabilitated rain forest to the caves, which consist of two chambers. Watch an audiovisual presentation about glowworms as your eyes adjust to the dark in the first chamber, then be guided around the second chamber, among a colony of thousands of native Mt. Tamborine glowworms.

Visit the Glow Worm Caves independently or as part of a sightseeing tour, and combine your visit with stops in Mt. Tamborine National Park. Additional sites can include nearby Gallery Walk or Springbrook National Park.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • The Glow Worm Caves are a fun experience for the whole family.

  • Photography is not permitted inside the caves.

  • Artificial lights are not permitted inside the caves.

  • Bring rain gear during inclement weather, as there is a short walk to the caves.

  • The caves are wheelchair-accessible.

How to Get There

The Glow Worm Caves are located at the Cedar Creek Estate Winery on Mt. Tamborine. From Brisbane, take the Beenleigh North exit (exit 34) on the M1 highway; from the Gold Coast, take the Oxenford exit (exit 57). Find Cedar Creek Estate Winery on Hartley Road, near Holt Road.

When to Get There

The Glow Worm Caves are open daily from 10am to 4pm, with extended twilight hours on Fridays and Saturdays. The caves are closed Christmas Day and Good Friday. Tours, which last for about 30 minutes and run every 30 minutes during business hours, are limited in size, so arrive early to guarantee your favored time slot.

Glowworms in Springbrook National Park

To see glowworms in their natural environment, head to Springbrook National Park, where they can be found near Natural Bridge. In their natural environment, glowworms can only be seen at night, so bring lights to find your way. Avoid shining lights on glowworms, however, as it can cause them to stop glowing and potentially kill them. Also avoid using insect repellant, which can kill glowworms.
