Grove Arcade
Asheville, NC
The historic retail center opened in 1929 before being taken over by the US government in World War II and later becoming the National Weather Records Center. On the National Register of Historic Places, Grove Arcade was reopened in 2002 after renovation as a shopping center with restaurants, specialty shops, apartments, and offices.
The basics
Grove Arcade is so much more than your typical mall. Not only does it host shopping and dining spaces, but it also has luxury apartments and community services like coworking spaces and a print shop. The Makers Market outdoor bazaar is an artisan market on the mall’s south side that showcases local art, food, and culture. There are plenty of hotels within walking distance of Grove Arcade.
Things to know before you go
- All retailers are from Asheville or the mountain region.
- Though outdoor, the Makers Market is open rain or shine.
- All restaurants are locally owned and feature varying cuisines.
