Procida
Naples, Italy
Capri may be the favorite among the yacht set and Ischia a popular spa destination, but the authentic atmosphere and few tourists on Procida make this sleepy island in the Campanian Archipelago a singular delight. Visit its colorful fishing village, pristine beaches, and picturesque coastline on a day trip from Naples or Ischia. Â
The basics
The smallest and least visited of the three main islands in the Gulf of Naples, Procida is particularly attractive to travelers who don’t enjoy crowds. Wander the tiny lanes of Marina Grande, Marina Corricella, and Marina di Chiaiolella, lined with pastel-hued buildings. Bask in the sun on the Chiaiolella Beach, Lido di Procida, or Pozzo Vecchio—known for its role in the film Il Postino.
Soak in the views from land over the boat-filled harbor and bay, or from the water over the pretty coastline. The island can only be reached by boat, either a public ferry or a private boat tour from Naples or Ischia.
Things to know before you go

- There are a number of restaurants and cafès in the villages and along the beach for lunch or a snack.
How to get there
Procida is located in the Gulf of Naples off the coast of Campania, and you can take a ferry from Naples or Ischia.
When to get there
Procida only sees crowds during the month of August, when Italians tend to escape to its peaceful beaches. Otherwise, the island is much quieter than Capri or Ischia even in the summer high season.
The Island of Ischia
Procida’s neighboring island of Ischia is the largest in the Gulf of Naples, and known for its natural hot springs, beautiful scenery, rustic cuisine, and resort towns along the coastline such as Casamicciola Terme and Lacco Ameno. Highlights including the Sant'Angelo and Maronti beaches, the 15th-century Aragonese Castle (Castello Aragonese) at Ischia Ponte, and the English-style La Mortella Gardens in Forio.
