Estacada is known as the Christmas Tree Capital of the world. In a valley at the foot of the Cascade Mountains, the town is sheltered by the forested bluffs that overhang the Clackamas River. As the gateway to the Mt. Hood National Forest, the area offers abundant recreational opportunities and is the starting point of the West Cascades National Scenic Byway, which ends in Oakridge. The 220-mile scenic route passes through old growth forest, along the Clackamas River and through the Western Cascade Mountains. Take SR 224 and FR 46 south from Estacada to Detroit; SR 22 and SR 126 to McKenzie Bridge; then FR 19 south to Oakridge. The best time for the drive is May through October. Learn More...
