Also known as the “Garden Isle,” Kaua'i offers many things to do centering on its famous scenery, but no visit is complete without learning about agriculture. The Grove Farm Museum on Nāwiliwili Road portrays life on an old sugar plantation; reservations are recommended. More natural places can be seen at nearby national wildlife refuges and state parks. Waimea Canyon, often called the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, the breathtaking Na Pali Coast with its towering sea cliffs and the serene beaches of Hanalei Bay are must-see destinations.
The capital of Kaua'i is Līhuʻe — anglicized as Lihue — or “cold chill” in the Hawaiian language. Located on its eastern side, Līhuʻe is convenient to both the Kauai Cruise Port at Nawiliwili Harbor and Lihue Airport (LIH). To understand this cultural and commercial hub, visit Rice Street, where you'll find many stores and structures dating back to the 19th century along the main road. Make sure to stop at the Kauai Museum, where you'll learn about the history and environment of the island.
