More About
Newton, MA

About NewtonOriginally a part of Cambridge, present-day Newton began to emerge as a separate community in the mid-1630s. Newton residents had to travel to and from the Harvard Square vicinity to conduct business, go to school or attend religious services until a meetinghouse finally was built within the Newton settlement. Although the building no longer exists, a monument near Centre and Cotton streets marks the site of the early structure.
