About St. CharlesAn hour west of Chicago, St. Charles contains many historic buildings that have been restored to house shops, restaurants and other establishments. Visitors can explore antique stores housing independent dealers. On the first Sunday (and preceding Saturday afternoon) of each month March through December, the city holds one of the largest antique flea markets in the country. In early October the Scarecrow Festival showcases more than 100 handcrafted scarecrows as well as a craft show.
