Redding

The Sundial Bridge at Turtle Bay crosses the Sacramento River in the center of town and serves as both a local landmark and as a connector to hiking and bicycling trails, including the Sacramento River National Recreation Trail, an 11-mile path that runs along both sides of the Sacramento River. There are scenic views of the river from benches along the shady trail. Trail users might catch a glimpse of beavers, otters, turtles and deer.

Clear Creek Greenway, 5 miles south on Market Street (SR 273) and then west on Clear Creek Road, is a 6-mile network of gravel trails used by hikers, bikers and horseback riders. Trailheads are located at Gold Dredge, Honeybee, Clear Creek Gorge and Horsetown Clear Creek Preserve. At Clear Creek Gorge a short hike around the rim trail leads to great views into the canyon; an overlook and salmon viewing platform enables visitors to view the fall run of Chinook salmon spawning in the creek below, which reaches its peak in October and November.
