The community kitchen was started by British celebrity chef Jamie Oliver during the first season of “Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution.”

The rose garden in Ritter Park, on McCoy Road between 8th and 12th streets, displays four species and 87 varieties of roses. Virginia Point Park, at the mouth of the Big Sandy River, has a boat-launching ramp and a camping area. The Ohio River also offers recreational opportunities. Public launching ramps and a marina provide boaters access to the river.

Camden Park, an amusement park just west of the city on US 60, offers more than 30 rides, including two wooden roller coasters and a 1907 carousel, as well as shows by nationally known recording artists; phone (304) 429-4321 or (866) 822-6336.

Shopping

Huntington Mall, off I-64 exit 20B, counts JCPenney and Macy's among its stores. Heritage Station, a restored railway yard at 11th Street and Veterans Memorial Boulevard, offers shops and restaurants housed in old warehouses and boxcars and a farmers market in summer months. An array of antique stores and restaurants occupy downtown's Old Central City on West 14th Street.
