Visit Athens, The Cradle of Democracy

The best time to visit Athens is during the summer months of late May through August. It’s also the most popular time to visit, so some of the major attractions, like the Athens ruins, can get crowded. The weather is usually very pleasant year-round, and there are always tours to take and things to do. Visiting off-season can help you save money and there will be much smaller crowds at the city's main sites.

Athens has one of the richest histories in Europe, which means there are always many things to do and see when you visit. From the large number of Athens museums to culturally and historically significant sites, here are a few things you have to experience:

• Visit one of the oldest districts in Athens, Plaka.
• See the site of the first Olympics at the Panathenaic Stadium.
• Go to the top of the Acropolis and visit the Parthenon.
• Travel to the Cape Sounion to see the Temple of Poseidon.

Getting around Athens is easy when you use public transportation. The Athens Metro makes getting around the city fast and easy. The bus system is reliable but gets bogged down during rush hour. Keep an eye on your wallet, purse, and other valuables while riding public transit, as pickpockets are looking for an easy score.
