New Hall Military Museum

320 Chestnut St., Philadelphia, Philadelphia, PA, 19106

The New Hall Military Museum is devoted to early American military history, with a focus on the Continental Marines, Army, and Navy. Housed in a recreation of the historic building used by Henry Knox (the country’s first Secretary of War) and his staff, the museum is a highlight of Philadelphia's Independence National Historical Park.

The basics

Set across two floors, the museum’s exhibitions tell the story of the colonial–era beginnings of the United States Armed Forces. On a self-led tour of the museum, you can discover artifacts ranging from historic weapons and flags to model ships and dioramas. The museum also houses a tribute to U.S. Marine Corps members who lost their lives during 20th-century military campaigns. The New Hall Military Museum features on several historical Philadelphia walking tours, including Constitution-themed tours and Founding Fathers excursions.

Things to know before you go

  • The New Hall Military Museum is free for all to visit and there’s no admission fee.
