Titlis Cliff Walk

The Basics

The Titlis Cliff Walk is one of several attractions on the summit of Mt. Titlis, along with the Glacier Cave and Titlis Glacier Park—dedicate a couple of hours to ticking them all off. Full- and half-day tours depart from several Swiss cities, including Zurich and Basel, with some combining free time on the mountaintop with a guided tour of Lucerne. Mt. Titlis is also a popular stop on multi-day tours, which provide an overview of Switzerland’s diverse landscapes.

Cable car tickets include entry to the main summit attractions, though skiers or snowboarders also require a slope pass. Lessons with a private instructor are useful for familiarising yourself with Mt. Titlis’s dramatic terrain.

Things to Know Before You Go

• The Titlis Cliff Walk is not accessible to wheelchairs or strollers.

• Wear easily removable layers during summer as it can get warm, even at the summit.

• The bridge is safe to cross, though it can feel a bit wobbly.

How to Get There

Titlis’s mountain station can only be accessed by cable car. From Engelberg, ride the Titlis Xpress up to Stand, then change for the Titlis Rotair. Cars can be parked in Engelberg for a fee, though the town is just as easily reached by train from Lucerne or round-trip tour bus.

When to Get There

The bridge’s main draw is its views, so good weather is a must. During winter, the experience can be easily combined with snowsports such as skiing, tobogganing, or snowmobiling, while spring and summer bring opportunities for wildlife watching, biking, and hiking on Mt. Titlis. The bridge closes during severe weather.

Mt. Pilatus, Lake Lucerne, and the Swiss Travel Pass

Titlis’s neighboring peak, Pilatus, is another must-see in central Switzerland, and its location overlooking the city of Lucerne makes it hard to miss. Home to the steepest cogwheel railway in the world and offering sweeping Alpine vistas, the mountain can be easily ticked off with Titlis on a multi- or full-day package, or combined with a Lake Lucerne cruise on a round-trip tour.
