Once a quiet vacation town for Washington's elite citizenry and a main stop on the Washington & Old Dominion Railroad, Herndon is in densely developed Fairfax County just 20 miles west of the nation's capital. Maintained by the Herndon Historical Society, the Herndon Depot Museum, 717 Lynn St., has a collection of railroad memorabilia, Civil War information and historic artifacts on loan from local residents. The building served as a train station until 1968. Learn More...
