About MiltonA heavy growth of briars along the Blackwater River elicited Milton's early name, Scratch Ankle. The Blackwater, one of the state's most pristine rivers, has retained its importance to modern Milton as a carrier of recreational canoeists rather than commerce; canoes and tubes can be rented in the area. Blackwater River State Park and Blackwater River State Forest are northeast. Historic old homes date back to the Civil War days. Whiting Field Naval Air Station is north on SR 87.
