What to Do in Plano

Originally known as Fillmore, Plano was renamed in 1851 when the post office was granted. Fires took a devastating toll on the city twice in the late 1800s. Proclaimed as the balloon capital of Texas, the city is host to the Plano Balloon Festival on the third weekend in September. It draws roughly 75,000 to Oak Point Park, 2801 E. Spring Creek Pkwy., for five balloon launches; concerts, skydiving and children's activities are also held.
