Hopkinsville

Hopkinsville Community College has gained notice in academic literary circles as the home of Round Table Park. This campus feature includes a replica of a fifth-century Athenian amphitheater; a statue of Melpomene, the classical Muse of tragedy; and a full-size marble replica of the table in Winchester, England, that is alleged to be the Round Table of King Arthur.

The route of the Trail of Tears, the forced relocation of 13,000 Cherokee Indians from their tribal lands westward to a reservation in Oklahoma during the winter of 1838-39, is remembered at Trail of Tears Commemorative Park , at US 41 and Skyline Drive. Part of the Trail of Tears National Historic Trail, the park is on a campsite used by the Native Americans during the 1,200-mile march. The graves of two Cherokee chiefs who died on the trail and a heritage center with interpretive exhibits can be seen.
