Known as Kentucky's Festival City as well as being designated a sports town, Owensboro holds more than 20 annual festivals and events. The Edge Ice Center, 1400 Hickman Ave., features ice skating, while the Diamond Lake Resort, west of town off SR 56, has 157 acres for fishing, camping and pedal-boating.

Towne Square Mall, south of the bypass at 5000 Frederica St., includes more than 60 stores. Downtown Owensboro, along 2nd and 3rd streets, includes antique, gift, coffee and candy shops as well as bistros.
