Regent's Park
(
Do not miss
)
Like many of London's parks, this land was appropriated by Henry VIII as a royal hunting ground and was not known as Regent's
Park until 1820, when the Prince Regent (the future George IV) decided to develop it as a grand new garden city. His architect
was John Nash, who was also responsible for much of the magnificent building of Bath. The beautiful white sweeps of stuccoed
buildings that make up the park's terraces and crescents represent only a small part of the original plans, but they remain
the most elegant example of town planning in the capital.
The gardens, delightful in summer, are famous for the Zoo, Queen Mary's Rose Garden and the Regent's Park Open-air Theatre.
You can also go boating on the lake.
