St Katharine's Dock
(
Highly Recommended
)
To experience the flavour of London's huge dockland warehouses as they used to be without making the journey east, visit St
Katharine's Dock, conveniently close to the Tower of London. Here exotic items such as ostrich feathers, spices, teas, turtles
and ivory (up to 22,000 tusks in a year) were once stored. The dock closed in 1968 and was subsequently developed to cater
for the tourist trade with shops, restaurants and historic sailing ships at berth. The picturesque Dickens Inn pub-restaurant
incorporates 17th-century timbers into its galleried frontage.
