Founded in 1768 under the presidency of the great British painter Sir Joshua Reynolds, the RA is the country's oldest fine
arts society. It regularly stages world-class art exhibitions but is famous for hosting the annual Summer Exhibition (in June)
which is open to both amateur and professional artists. The elegant home of the RA, Burlington House, features some fine 18th-century
ceiling paintings and Britain's sole Michelangelo sculpture.
