The oldest and the prettiest of central London's royal parks, St James's was established by Henry VIII in the 1530s. Charles II was the last monarch to reshape it and was often to be seen walking in the park with one of his many mistresses, or swimming in its lake. Don't miss the magical views from the bridge in the centre of the lake, west to Buckingham Palace and east to the domes and towers of Whitehall.
