There is some doubt whether this is the smallest pub in Ghent or not. Whatever the figures, it is certainly tiny and full of atmosphere. The name refers to the iron hooks that you can still see on the corner with the Vleeshuis. Before being burnt at the stake on the Veerleplein criminals were riveted to these hooks. They were then put to shame by the many visitors to the vegetable market and in this way any potential thieves were warned of the dire consequences of their criminal deeds.
