In spite of the fact that the various faculties are spread out here and there in the city, Ghent does have a street where all the university students meet up: Overpoortstraat. It is tremendously busy here, especially on Thursday evenings during the academic year, and you will be struck by the bacchanalian intensity of the student life. This area has the highest number of pubs and the police often have to divert the traffic because it is impossible to drive through the crowds of people. Parents who happen to see this street on a Thursday evening might begin to have serious worries about their children's studies.
