Swans have always been a symbol of beer - and girls. Up to and including the 17th century this building was a pub and a harbour brothel. Rumour has it that Emperor Charles V used to come here incognito to have a good time. The building is now in a sorry state. It has been empty for years and although certain politicians have bemoaned the fact, the slow deterioration continues. As often happens in this city, investors are put off by the high prices of historic buildings and the strict regulations on restoration. For a while there has been a rumour that an American would like to open an hotel here.
