Museum Voor Sierkunsten

( Highly Recommended )

You get a very strange feeling walking round this 18th-century aristocrats house. On the one hand you are walking through dusty and musty old rooms, and on the other hand there is a fresh modern part to discover. But the museum does have the desired effect. The old rooms belong to the De Coninck hotel that was once housed here and they show interiors from the 15th to the 19th centuries. The modern part provides space for temporary exhibitions, illustrating a particular aspect of design, a particular country or period. In the old section the emphasis is on form, in the new it is on design. It is a question of reflecting the spirit of the age.
