Edinburgh Zoo
( Do not miss ) Spreading up the slopes of Corstorphine Hill, Edinburgh Zoo is the headquarters of the Royal Scottish Zoological Society, with a strong accent on conservation, captive breeding of endangered species and education. With over 1,000 animals from all over the world, plenty of hands-on opportunities and activities of all kinds, the Zoo is extremely child-friendly, and all kids will enjoy the chance to see rhinoceros, bears, giraffes, zebras, hippos and many more. A new lion enclosure has recently opened, there's the Magic Forest, devoted to small rainforest monkeys, and an evolutionary maze. The highlight for most visitors is the daily penguin parade at 2pm; the Zoo has a long tradition of successful breeding of four species of these charming birds, which you can see swimming underwater through the glass windows of their pool. Allow plenty of time for a visit, and be prepared to climb - Corstorphine Hill is steep.
