Huntly House Museum

( Highly Recommended )

The three tenements comprising the Huntly House Museum, a warren of passages, crooked stairs and oddly shaped rooms, are as fascinating as the collections they house, which tell the history of Edinburgh. The building dates from 1570, and was home to merchants, aristocrats and working people at different times in its history; you can see how they lived in the different room interiors scattered throughout. There's almost too much to see in one visit, with displays following Edinburgh's development from Roman times to the 19th century. The eclectic mix includes everything from silver to shop signs, but most visitors particularly enjoy the sight of Greyfriars Bobby's collar and bowl; while more serious-minded visitors shouldn't miss the 1638 National Covenant, signed by the Presbyterian leadership.
