Hanover Street
(
Worth Seeing
)
For one of the best views to be had in the New Town, walk in either direction up and down the slopes of Hanover Street, the
easternmost of the three streets crossing the grid pattern of the First New Town. To the south is the classical façade of
the Royal Scottish Academy, with the Mound, Assembly Hall and New College rising behind. To the north, the slopes drop away
to give far views to the Firth of Forth and the Fife hills. The statue at the junction with George Street shows George IV,
seemingly enjoying much the same vista.
