Braid Hills ( Highly Recommended ) If you're feeling energetic, you could combine a walk on Blackford Hill with a few more miles over the Braid Hills (205m) which lie just to the south and are linked to Blackford by good paths. Much of the area is covered by golf courses; these were laid out by the City of Edinburgh in 1889 as public courses when play on city-centre Bruntsfield Links was becoming restricted. Few tourists penetrate these outer hills, outliers of the Pentlands, and the only people you're likely to meet are local golfers and dog-walkers. There are more sweeping panoramas from Braid; on a clear day look north and to your left for a fine view of the Forth Bridges.
