Parliament Square
(
Worth Seeing
)
Parliament Square lies behind St Giles Cathedral, an open space surrounded by the 19th-century colonnades masking Parliament
House; they were designed by Robert Reid and built between 1803 and 1830. The equestrian statue of Charles II excited much
comment when it went up in 1685, Roman triumphal dress being less than familiar to the locals. You'll see lawyers hurrying
through the square on their way to the Court of Session and the High Court of Justice.
