The University of Edinburgh
(
Worth Seeing
)
The University of Edinburgh was founded in 1582. Its buildings are centred around Old College, designed by Robert Adam in
1789. Near by lies George Square, home to arts and science, with a few fine Georgian houses still huddled beneath the monstrous
1960s campus building. The McEwan Hall is used for ceremonial occasions, while the classical Reid Concert Hall also houses
the Historic Instrument Collection. You can visit several of the university's buildings: the Playfair Library, one of Edinburgh's
finest classical interiors, is the pick of the bunch.
