Greyfriars Kirk
(
Highly Recommended
)
Historic Greyfriars Kirk, standing on the site of a Franciscan friary, was built in 1620, a simple and peaceful church surrounded
by a green kirkyard, the site of the signing of the National Covenant in 1638. Most visitors come here to see the statue of
a small Skye terrier on a fountain opposite the churchyard gate. The statue commemorates Greyfriars Bobby, a loyal dog who
kept watch here at his master's grave for 14 years until his own death in 1872.
