Queen Street

( Highly Recommended )

Queen Street runs parallel with Princes Street and George Street, a long stretch of fine Georgian architecture that is largely untouched by modern development. Queen Street was built between 1769 and 1792 and named after Queen Charlotte, wife of George III. Most of its buildings now house offices, but the fine views towards the Firth of Forth remain unchanged, as do the private gardens running along the whole of the north side. James Young Simpson, the pioneer of anaesthesia, conducted his experiments on himself in number 52.
